2. Analytical Methodology

Section A. Core Growth Processing

Standard time-series analysis is performed on raw lifetime aggregates to derive daily velocity and growth trends. These include Daily Views, Subscriber Deltas, and Moving Averages and Sums (7d/30d).

Section B. Proprietary Cohort Insights

The following metrics are proprietary calculations developed by Simon Liles and are calculated based on curated niche cohort and custom heuristic models:

  • Audience Activation (AA): 30 Day Total Views divided by Subscriber Count
    • Measures the ratio of the current “Addressable Audience” that is actively consuming content within a 30-day window.
  • Catalog Yield (CY): 30 Day Total Views divided by Total Video Count
    • Evaluates the “Return on Content” for the channel’s historical library, identifying evergreen strength vs. viral reliance.
  • Niche Benchmarks: Aggregate performance data calculated across our manually-verified database of 1,000+ sailing channels.
  • Channel Activity Status: An inferential status determined by recent upload frequency and view velocity.

3. Data Integrity & Update Frequency

  • ETL Schedule: Data is ingested and processed daily at Midnight UTC.
  • Collection Scope: The sailing niche is curated manually to ensure 100% relevance. This avoids the “noise” typical of automated keyword-based scrapers.
  • Shorts vs. Long-form: Currently, YouTube API aggregate view data does not distinguish between Shorts and Long-form content. Users should interpret AA and CY metrics with the understanding that high-volume Shorts production may skew velocity results.
