LIS 4317 Data Visualization: Adding Vector Graphics with Adobe Illustrator

This week I used Adobe Illustrator to add vector graphics to the data visualization I made last week. I added labels for major locations along the coastline to label the marina hotspots on the map. I also added a key to label the different colors on the map. The original graphic did have a key, however this key is nicer looking. The large text that says: “Florida Marinas; Keep your yacht in a Tropical Paradise” was added to give this graphic a sense of purpose. This makes it seem like the purpose of the graphic is to provide summary information for someone looking to find a port of call for their yacht or small boat. The fonts were chosen partly for readability and to separate the different types of information from each other visually, and also partly because those fonts are visually appealing in the way that they are used. The color of the fonts was also chosen for the aesthetic, in this case I was attempting to go for a nautical or yachty feel, which often calls for a blue color palette.
